MALIBU, JULY 3, 2017 – Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) CA Psi, the first national fraternity to colonize and charter at Pepperdine University and longest tenured fraternity on campus, donated a professional basketball hoop to the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu (BGCM). The donation will help support BGCM’s youth development programs at its Juan Cabrillo, Point Dume and new Webster Club House locations, as well as kickoff a new partnership between SigEp and BGCM which aligns with SigEp’s philanthropic strategy moving forward.
Youth Development Donation
Together with BGMC staff, SigEp alumni and undergrad members helped install the professional basketball hoop just in time for the July 4th holiday at BGCM’s Juan Cabrillo Elementary School Club House. The student organization intended for the hoop to provide another activity that teaches youth teamwork and fitness, as well as cultivates more fun with BGCM.
“Wellness is a big part of BGCM’s programming, and we’re always looking for ways to improve our facilities to help youth get the most out of our Club Houses. We have this big open area that was just asking for something to make it a more fun space; couldn’t be happier to get the call from SigEp. Our kids can play like the pros with this hoop!”

New Partnership and Strategy
More than just a basketball hoop, SigEp and BGCM will form a strategic partnership beginning in August this year to coincide with the launch of BGCM’s Webster Club House and Pepperdine’s 2017-2018 school year. In addition to helping with the Webster Club House grand opening, SigEp members plan to support BGCM staff in academic tutoring and wellness activities ongoing as well as facility improvements.
“We have enjoyed great success for years with the Pepperdine Volunteer Center, and to see a student organization like SigEp develop a strategic approach to community service and step up to dig in with BGCM on a greater and more long-term scale is energizing. We can’t wait to get started and make an even bigger impact together this Fall.”

“As students of Pepperdine University and members of Sigma Phi Epsilon, we have always prided ourselves on being a service-led organization. Now, we want to focus our philanthropic efforts on helping Malibu’s youth in any way we can. Partnering with BGCM was a natural fit.”

“We’re also excited to dedicate our work with the American Red Cross and Pepperdine’s annual Step Forward Day to support youth programs in the community. And we’re looking to further elevate our SigEp Bounce events, which benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. All philanthropic activities will look for ways to assist with Malibu youth development.”

SigEp CA Psi
SigEp’s CA Psi chapter has been built on leadership within Pepperdine’s student community, continuing to make history on campus ever since it initiated the University’s move to affiliate all local Greek organizations with national organizations 20 years ago. Now, it hopes to continue building on this success on campus as well as make a larger contribution to the larger Malibu community by helping its youth.
